9 SENATE DEMS URGE ICE TO HALT 'MOBILE FORTIFY' FACIAL-RECOGNITION APP

Nine Senate Democrats asked ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons to pause use of the Mobile Fortify mobile facial-recognition app and provide details on deployment, data sources and whether commercial datasets are integrated. Lawmakers raised concerns the app could be used to identify people encountered on the street, surveil protesters, and match faces in real time against multiple federal databases, renewing privacy and civil liberties scrutiny of ICE biometric tools.
