CBP: Border Patrol Pursuit In Brownsville Ends In Fatal Smuggling Crash; Two Migrants Injured
CBP reports a Sept. 23 incident in Brownsville, TX, where a suspected human-smuggling Ford F-150 fled a joint DPS–Border Patrol stop and crashed into a tractor-trailer. The U.S. citizen driver died; two migrants were injured (one with a small brain bleed) and taken to hospitals, with one later released to Border Patrol custody. TX DPS and DEA are investigating; CBP’s Office of Professional Responsibility is reviewing and DHS OIG was notified. The case adds to a recent Rio Grande Valley cluster of high-risk smuggling pursuits and concealments resulting in deaths and injuries.
