CBP Helicopter Struck By Rock Near Arizona Border; Previously Deported Guatemalan Charged With Assault

CBP says a Guatemalan national in the U.S. illegally allegedly threw a rock at a CBP Airbus H-125 helicopter during an Oct. 28 search near Sasabe, Arizona, damaging a main rotor blade and striking the windscreen. The aircrew had responded after a ground sensor detected three people in camouflage with backpacks in the Baboquivari Mountains. The suspect, identified as Oswaldo Ajqui-Ruiz, was arrested and faces charges of assault on a federal officer and illegal re-entry. CBP said he was denied entry on Jan. 29, 2025 and previously deported out of Louisiana.
