San Diego Border Patrol Nabs Fentanyl, Cocaine, Meth Hidden In Car Batteries — 4 Incidents In 2025

CBP’s San Diego Sector reports a sustained tactic of smugglers hiding narcotics inside vehicle batteries, with four interdictions since April 2025. The latest stop on Aug. 20 in Carlsbad yielded 9.25 lbs of cocaine and 2.1 lbs of meth. Earlier battery concealments included 32.8 lbs of fentanyl (Apr 14), 4.85 lbs of fentanyl (Jul 24), and 16.2 lbs of fentanyl plus $1,000 cash (Jul 28). Sector leadership says agents are leveraging all resources to disrupt these networks amid broader regional drug seizures.
