Ireland Homeless Record: 50% Of Adults Are Foreign Nationals Amid Asylum Surge

Ireland’s Department of Housing reports a record 16,614 people in emergency homeless accommodation in September 2025, including 11,376 adults. Of those adults, 2,310 are from the EEA/UK and 3,379 from outside the EEA—totaling 5,689 foreign nationals versus 5,687 Irish. Parliamentary answers indicate 1,680 single male asylum applicants went without State accommodation between May and September 2025 amid a surge in arrivals, heightening legal and human-rights risk noted in a 2023 High Court ruling.
