Mass Deportation's $900 Billion Economic Success - Study Says!

The Penn Wharton Budget Model analyzed the fiscal and economic impacts of mass deportation of unauthorized immigrants under two policy scenarios. It projects significant reductions in aggregate economic variables such as GDP and wages for high-skilled workers. Conversely, authorized low-skilled workers might experience wage increases, contingent on the permanent sustainment of deportation policies. The study estimates a substantial additional cost of $900 billion over the first decade for a permanent deportation policy. Overall, the findings highlight that the economic and distributional outcomes of deportation depend critically on how easily authorized workers can substitute for unauthorized low-skilled labor.
