CHICAGO MAYOR: CPD WON’T AID ICE OR NATIONAL GUARD IN FEDERAL CRACKDOWN

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson signed an executive order directing Chicago police not to collaborate with National Guard troops or federal agents, including ICE, if President Trump deploys them to the city. The order requires officers to wear official uniforms, identify themselves, follow body-camera procedures and not wear masks to distinguish city police from federal operations. Johnson said deploying federal military forces without local consent undermines democratic norms, threatens civil liberties and risks escalating violence, and he indicated the city may pursue legal action. The White House dismissed the move as a publicity stunt while state leaders argued the president may lack authority to send troops without a governor's request.
