DHS To Pay 287(g) Police Salaries, Add Bonuses To Boost ICE Arrests In 40 States

DHS announced a program to reimburse local agencies for the salaries, benefits and up to 25% overtime of officers deputized under 287(g) to assist ICE, funded by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and set to start Oct. 1. Agencies will also receive quarterly performance-based payments for locating ICE-identified undocumented immigrants, with tiered per-officer awards for 70%–100% compliance. DHS cites 8,501 trained task force officers and 2,000+ in training across 40 states, aiming to accelerate deportation efforts, a move drawing debate over local policing incentives and civil rights impacts.
