FORMER CBP OFFICER PLEADS GUILTY: $700K BRIBES, 250 MIGRANTS SMUGGLED, 32 KG COCAINE
Manuel Perez Jr., a former CBP officer in El Paso, pleaded guilty in federal court to bribery, human smuggling, and drug trafficking. Prosecutors say he took more than $700,000 in bribes and luxury items, helped smuggle over 250 migrants through the Paso Del Norte Bridge across multiple runs in 2023–2024, and conspired to distribute more than 32 kilograms of cocaine that reached other states. He was arrested in February; alleged conduct stretches back to 2019. DHS condemned the betrayal of the badge; CBP stressed that the vast majority of officers serve with honor. Sentencing is pending.
