HOUSTON ICE LODGES DETAINER AGAINST UBER DRIVER ACCUSED OF KIDNAPPING, ALLEGED VISA OVERSTAY

ICE lodged an arrest detainer against Sameh Mohamad Chami after his arrest in Friendswood, Texas, where he is accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 21-year-old Uber passenger. DHS says Chami entered on a B-2 visa in Dec. 2021, overstayed, and remained in the U.S. for more than three years; the detainer was issued to ensure transfer to ICE custody. The piece is one of several recent Houston-area enforcement reports and is being used in federal messaging about visa overstays and sanctuary cooperation.
