ICE Arrests Double, Deportations Triple In Connecticut; Courthouse And Car Wash Sweeps Spark Protests

CT Mirror reports ICE made 405 arrests in Connecticut from January–July 2025 vs. 173 a year prior, with deportations more than tripling. A four-day ICE sweep, "Operation Broken Trust," added 65 arrests statewide. Arrests clustered at courthouses, workplaces, and car washes in Danbury, Stamford, Norwalk, New Haven, New Britain and elsewhere, prompting protests and local-federal friction under Connecticut’s Trust Act. Many detainees were transferred out-of-state, with an unusual spike in transfers to facilities including Plymouth, MA and Alexandria, LA; Sen. Blumenthal opened an investigation into alleged aggressive tactics.
