A worker at La Casa Mexicana in Edwardsville was reportedly detained by ICE on Aug. 25, prompting fear among staff and the community, according to the restaurant manager and a witness who saw an unmarked white SUV. The employee is a Mexican national who worked there for three years. This local arrest aligns with a broader uptick in interior workplace enforcement: ICE detained 16 workers at Emiliano’s restaurants in Pennsylvania on Aug. 7 and more than 40 workers in Alabama in July, indicating a multi-state surge targeting food-service workplaces.
