ICE Arrests Maine Semi-Pro Soccer Player At Scarborough Gas Station, Transfers Him To Massachusetts During Deportation Appeal

Malunda Destino, a semiprofessional soccer player for the Lewiston-based Maine Legends FC, was arrested by ICE at a Scarborough gas station last week and subsequently transferred to a detention facility in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Friends said agents approached his car, ordered him out, and moved him out of state before acquaintances could locate him. Immigration court records show a removal order was issued in 2023 and an appeal remains pending; ICE indicated he will remain in custody until the appeal is resolved. His arrest has shaken his team and the local immigrant community, prompting fears among other players and fundraising efforts to support his pregnant girlfriend and pay legal fees.
