ICE DETAINER ISSUED AFTER ILLEGAL TRUCKER WITH CALIFORNIA CDL KILLS 3 ON FLORIDA TURNPIKE

Florida authorities arrested Harjinder Singh, an Indian national present unlawfully, after an alleged illegal U-turn by his California-licensed semi caused a crash that killed three people on the Florida Turnpike. DHS says Singh crossed at San Ysidro in 2018, was processed for expedited removal, then released on bond after a fear claim and remained in immigration proceedings; ICE has lodged a detainer and officials say he will be removed after state charges. The case has fueled criticism of California’s commercial driver licensing for noncitizens and broader enforcement policy debates.
