Amid a federal takeover of Washington, D.C. policing that began Aug. 11, MPD and National Guard operations have produced hundreds of arrests and dozens of gun seizures, with reported cooperation with ICE leading to arrests of several noncitizens, including an alleged MS-13 member. Activity has concentrated in Wards 7 and 8 and has sparked debate over crime data accuracy and civil liberties. Mayor Bowser has denounced the intervention while the White House touts falling crime numbers.
