Daily Caller, citing the Washington Post, reports the Trump administration fired IRS Commissioner Billy Long after he declined to share additional confidential taxpayer data on suspected undocumented immigrants with DHS. An April Treasury–DHS agreement sought IRS verification for roughly 40,000 names; DHS later signaled it could request data on millions. IRS privacy lawyers objected; officials said they could match under 3% of names, many linked to ITINs. DHS and the White House defended the data-sharing as a law-enforcement tool; Treasury named Scott Bessent interim commissioner.
