OHIO JAILS Fuel ICE Surge: Detainers Drive Spike In Arrests And Deportations

Analysis of ICE data shows apprehensions in Ohio jumped to 1,546 through July 28, 2025 (vs. 828 in all of 2024) and deportations rose to 1,081 through the same date. Much of the increase is attributable to ICE using local jails and detainers (not public raids) — Butler, Montgomery and Clark counties among the hardest hit — raising concerns about interior enforcement tactics and impacts on nonviolent immigrants.
