PORTLAND: PROTESTER HITS FEDERAL OFFICER WITH TAMBOURINE AT ICE FACILITY; PROSECUTORS SAY 36 CHARGED

Federal prosecutors say a 56-year-old Portland woman struck a federal officer with a wooden tambourine outside the South Portland ICE facility on Oct. 19. She faces a felony charge of assaulting a federal officer and was released pending further proceedings. The case follows another arrest the prior day and comes amid an October spike in confrontations; prosecutors report about 36 people have been charged for offenses near the ICE site since summer.
