Siler City Police Advocate Charged In U-Visa Fraud After Allegedly Taking Thousands From Victims

Gloria Maldonado, 57, a former Siler City Police Department advocate who assisted domestic violence victims, is accused of charging two men $1,200 and $5,200 to help secure U visas and failing to provide the promised assistance. The State Bureau of Investigation says more potential victims came forward during the probe; a Chatham County hearing is scheduled for Sept. 22. Authorities request anyone who paid Maldonado for legal-document assistance contact the SBI.
