TRUMP EXPANDS 287(g): NEARLY 900 LOCAL POLICE DEPUTIZED TO ICE, SUPERCHARGING DEPORTATIONS

The Trump administration has rapidly expanded 287(g) partnerships, with nearly 900 state and local law enforcement agencies across about 40 states signing agreements to assist ICE in enforcing federal immigration laws. That marks roughly a 563% increase from 135 when Trump took office, according to data obtained by the Washington Examiner, and DHS says it has secured 896 signed agreements. The program deputizes local officers to carry out federal immigration enforcement, accelerating deportations and enabling larger local-federal operations. Supporters contend the partnerships help arrest criminal illegal aliens and boost enforcement capacity, while critics warn of risks including racial profiling, civil-rights violations, and mass deportations.
