USCIS, HSI, SDNY Bust Asylum-Fraud Operator: 27-Month Sentence After Canada Extradition

Tenzin Norbu was sentenced to 27 months in federal prison and ordered to forfeit $170,000 for running a paid asylum-fraud scheme that filed dozens of false claims with boilerplate narratives from 2007–2018. Investigated by USCIS, ICE HSI, and SDNY, the case involved coaching clients, fake IDs, and cross‑border flight to Canada followed by extradition. Nearly 100 applicants’ immigration statuses are now in limbo due to the fraudulent filings.
