5,000+ Flee To Cameroon As Boko Haram Seizes Nigeria Border Town

More than 5,000 people fled across the Nigeria–Cameroon border after Boko Haram captured Kirawa in Borno state, burning a barracks, the district head’s palace, and dozens of homes. Residents say the town is deserted as civilians sought refuge in Cameroon and Maiduguri amid reports of a wider uptick in Boko Haram/ISWAP attacks this year. Local leaders are urging urgent military reinforcement after a multinational task force reportedly withdrew in August.
