Argentina Launches U.S.-Style Migration Police To Harden Borders And Speed Deportations

Argentina announced a new National Migration Agency (ANM), a U.S.-inspired migration police designed to centralize and professionalize border control across land crossings and airports. Modeled on DHS/CBP/TSA, the ANM fits with President Javier Milei’s recent crackdowns, including faster deportations for criminals and limits on free healthcare for non-citizens. Officials say ANM officers will receive counter-trafficking and counter-terrorism training and integrate existing units. Budgeting remains unresolved, but the government says it can proceed using current security funds.
