DUBLIN: WOMEN’S COALITION DEMANDS SCREENING OF ASYLUM SEEKERS, CRIME STATS BY ORIGIN
A new Women's Coalition on Immigration launched in Dublin urging Ireland to screen international protection applicants against European crime databases and to publish disaggregated sexual offence statistics by country of origin and ethnicity. The 20-page report, authored by barrister Laoise de Brún and journalist Barbara McCarthy, cites official data from multiple EU states and warns of shifting patterns of sexual violence. The group links its call to safeguarding concerns around IPAS accommodation, including Citywest, and says transparency and stronger safeguards are needed to protect women and children. The launch comes amid a short-term cluster of protests, incidents, and advocacy around Citywest that has intensified scrutiny of asylum policy.
