HIQA Slams Ireland’s IPAS: 96 Asylum Seekers In Tents — Some Stuck 2+ Years
Irish watchdog HIQA found serious risks at the Knockalisheen IPAS centre in Co Clare, where 96 of 249 residents — including families — are living in military-style tents, with some there for over two years. Inspectors cited deteriorating buildings, inadequate fire safety and structural defects, alongside incomplete safeguarding policies. Over half of residents had already received protection status but remain stuck due to housing shortages. The report urges urgent action to end long-term tent use and fix safety gaps.
