ICJ To Rule On Israel’s Obligations For Aid Access In Gaza, West Bank

The International Court of Justice will issue an advisory opinion on Israel’s legal obligations to facilitate humanitarian operations in Gaza and the West Bank. Requested by the U.N. General Assembly, the opinion may address protections for U.N. staff and could influence global practice despite being non-binding. U.N. and Palestinian representatives accused Israel of restricting aid earlier this year; Israel says controls targeted Hamas and called the hearings politicized. The case follows a 2024 ICJ opinion deeming Israel’s occupation illegal.
