Judge Grants Bail In Killarney Asylum Centre Stabbing Case; Garda Cites CCTV And Witnesses

A judge granted bail to a man accused of stabbing a co-resident at a Killarney centre for asylum-seekers after an incident on November 25 that allegedly left the victim with a puncture wound to the rear of the upper right thigh. The State opposed bail, arguing the accused — who arrived in Ireland in 2022 and had sought asylum in multiple European countries — was a flight risk and may be using an alias. Gardaí said evidence includes CCTV, eyewitness testimony and admissions made in custody, though no forensic analysis has yet been completed and witnesses did not report seeing a weapon. The defence denies a stabbing occurred and warned the accused could face prolonged detention while inquiries continue. The case was adjourned until January 3 when the judge will decide on jurisdiction.
