TRUMP'S CRACKDOWN: 37 STATES PASS HARSH NEW IMMIGRATION LAWS IN 2025

In the first half of 2025, 37 states enacted over 100 immigration-related laws, predominantly in Republican-led states. These laws aim to intensify the Trump administration's immigration crackdown, introducing various restrictions and penalties on noncitizens, while some Democratic-led states have passed supportive legislation for immigrants. A significant number of new statutes, at least 34, concern the role of state and local police in immigration enforcement, encouraging cooperation with federal authorities and criminalizing aid to undocumented immigrants. Additionally, eight states have passed laws promoting participation in the 287(g) program, leading to over 600 new law enforcement partnerships nationwide.
