CALIFORNIA LEGISLATURE OKS SCHOOL ICE ALERTS — NEWSOM TO DECIDE

California lawmakers approved the SAFE Act to require K-12 schools, community colleges, and state universities to alert families when ICE agents are on campus. The bill, led by Sen. Sasha Renée Pérez, responds to heightened immigration enforcement and now heads to Gov. Gavin Newsom; if signed by Oct. 12, it takes immediate effect through 2031. The move is part of a broader California push to limit immigration enforcement access to schools and other sensitive locations.
