DOJ BACKS OFF MPD TAKEOVER, WILL REWRITE BONDI ORDER EXPANDING ICE COOPERATION IN D.C.

After a D.C. federal court hearing, DOJ agreed to remove its newly named emergency MPD chief and to rewrite a directive that had scrapped limits on local police cooperation with ICE. The District sued the Trump administration and AG Pam Bondi, arguing the order rescinding sanctuary protections violated the Home Rule Act. Judge Ana Reyes said the president can request MPD services under Section 740 but not assume full operational control; arguments on the immigration policy changes will continue next week.
