DOJ Publishes National ‘Sanctuary’ Jurisdictions List, Threatens Lawsuits and Funding Cuts

The Justice Department released a list of more than 20 states, counties and cities it designates as "sanctuary" jurisdictions and threatened lawsuits and withholding of federal funds. The list spans diverse jurisdictions including California, Colorado and New York state, and cities such as Chicago, San Francisco and New York City; Louisville was removed after agreeing to honor ICE detainers. Federal judges have previously blocked some of the administration's attempts to punish jurisdictions, and an earlier, longer list was briefly published and withdrawn after errors.
