DOJ THREATENS VERMONT OVER 'SANCTUARY' IMMIGRATION POLICIES — AG BONDI WARNS OF LAWSUITS, FUNDING CUTS

The Justice Department under Attorney General Pam Bondi sent Vermont an Aug. 13 letter alleging the state’s policies obstruct federal immigration enforcement, warning of potential lawsuits, criminal exposure and loss of federal funds. Vermont officials, including Gov. Phil Scott, dispute the ‘sanctuary’ label and say state law allows cooperation with federal authorities; a formal response is being prepared. The move is part of a coordinated August push in which DOJ issued similar letters to multiple New England and other jurisdictions.
