Exclusive: US Senate Backs Risch's Aggressive Anti-Trafficking Bill

Senator Jim Risch has introduced the International Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act (TVPRA), a bill aimed at reauthorizing and strengthening efforts to combat human trafficking globally. This legislation expands upon the 2000 Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA), providing current and future administrations with enhanced tools to fight human trafficking, including across the U.S. southern border. The bill also seeks to encourage international allies to increase their contributions to anti-trafficking measures. It reauthorizes the Department of State's TIP Office and introduces new oversight mechanisms for transparency in human trafficking reporting, tying U.S. development assistance to nations' counter-trafficking progress. The bipartisan bill is co-sponsored by Senators Ted Budd, Jeanne Shaheen, Tim Kaine, and Rick Scott.
