Federal Court Blocks Trump's Plan to Strip 60,000 of TPS Protections

A federal judge in California has extended Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for approximately 60,000 individuals from Central America and Nepal, including those from Honduras and Nicaragua. This decision comes despite the Trump administration's efforts to terminate these protections, arguing that conditions in their home countries no longer warrant them. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem had previously determined that Honduras and Nicaragua had recovered sufficiently from Hurricane Mitch in 1998. The Trump administration has been actively seeking to end various TPS designations as part of a broader push for mass deportations. Lawyers for the National TPS Alliance contend that Noem's decisions were politically motivated rather than based on objective country conditions.
