FEDERAL JUDGE AWARDS $112M AFTER SUFFOLK COUNTY HELD 674 IMMIGRANTS FOR ICE
A federal judge ruled Suffolk County and its Sheriffâs Office unlawfully detained 674 immigrants in 2017, awarding more than $112 million in damages. Plaintiffs were kept in county jails after posting bail or resolving cases, often to facilitate ICE holds and transfers.
