FEDERAL JUDGE HALTS ICE'S UGANDA DEPORTATION PLAN FOR ABREGO GARCIA; OCT. 6 HEARING SET

A Maryland federal judge extended a temporary restraining order keeping Kilmar Abrego Garcia in the continental U.S. and within 200 miles of the court, blocking ICE from transferring him to a third country such as Uganda pending an Oct. 6 evidentiary hearing. The court cited due‑process concerns, including access to counsel and a reasonable fear interview, and noted the lack of assurances from Uganda compared to Costa Rica. DOJ acknowledged the order while opposing its extension. Abrego Garcia’s attorneys also moved to reopen his immigration case to seek asylum.
