GEO Investigator At Texas ICE Jail Pleads Guilty In Detainee Assault; DOJ Cuts Charge To Misdemeanor

Charles Siringi, 66, the chief investigator at GEO Group’s Montgomery Processing Center in Conroe, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor for using excessive force against a migrant detainee after DOJ reduced an earlier felony civil-rights charge. Charging records say he pushed, dragged, and choked the detainee and slammed his head into a window; coworkers told DHS investigators the force was unnecessary. Siringi was fired; prosecutors will recommend probation, but a federal judge could impose up to a year in prison. The case adds to a recent cluster of misconduct and oversight concerns at GEO-run ICE facilities.
