Judge Greenlights Shutdown Of Florida’s ‘Alligator Alcatraz’; ICE Transfers Detainees As Everglades Deportation Camp Winds Down

A federal judge in Miami refused to pause her order to wind down Florida’s Everglades detention site known as “Alligator Alcatraz,” clearing the way for closure by late October. DHS and Florida argued the 2,000-bed site is needed, but the court cited ongoing transfers and said enforcement won’t be thwarted. The ruling follows lawsuits over environmental harm and detainee legal access, as Florida moves to open a separate facility dubbed “Deportation Depot.”
