JUDGE ORDERS RELEASES IN CHICAGO ICE RAIDS: UP TO 615 DETAINED MAY GO FREE UNDER 2022 DECREE

A federal judge enforcing a 2022 consent decree restricting warrantless ICE arrests in Chicago set a deadline to release 13 detainees and could trigger releases for up to 615 people arrested without warrants from June to October. DHS must assess risk and flight concerns; at least 313 detainees are flagged low-risk for release on bond with GPS monitoring. The ruling follows mass arrests during Operation Midway Blitz, which advocates say swept up more than 3,300 people. DHS blasted the decision while signaling continued or heightened street-level enforcement in Chicago and possible redeployments to other cities.
