A federal judge permanently blocked the Trump administration from withholding $34 million in Transit Security Grant Program funds from New York’s MTA, ruling the cut—tied to NYC’s ‘sanctuary’ status—was arbitrary and unlawful. The court said allocations must be based solely on terrorism risk, not immigration cooperation. New York sued DHS and FEMA after a filing admitted the denial was because NYC is a designated Sanctuary Jurisdiction. The ruling restores funding for counterterror patrols, security equipment, infrastructure and cybersecurity.
