Nashville Judge Tosses Anti-Hacking Claim In Fight To Hide THP IDs From ICE Sweep Records; New Hearing Set
A Davidson County chancellor rejected Tennessee’s attempt to use an anti-hacking statute to justify withholding Tennessee Highway Patrol identities tied to ICE-led immigration sweeps in Nashville, but ordered further briefing on whether officer names and badge numbers can be withheld under a separate law. The case stems from a TIRRC public-records suit alleging the state delayed and heavily redacted video and reports from mass traffic stops that led to ICE detentions. The judge signaled that information visible during stops, like badge numbers, may not become confidential simply because it is aggregated in a records response. A new hearing will determine the scope of disclosures going forward.
